Hallstatt – Romantic Village in Alps

Small village in the north of Austria is located in a valley, ensconces among the vast and majestic mountains like a small cat ensconce between soft cushions.

Fairy Village

Hallstatt is charming and romantic because of small winding alleys around the village and the roads along the flank leading to the top. The small village overlooks the lake, behind it is the mountain. On the top of the mountain behind the village, you can have a panoramic view of the entire beautiful village. It only takes about an hour to climb to it, and visitors will have the opportunity to admire the panoramic view from the height: the snow mountains, lakes, small roofs lying in the heart of steppe. There is no word that can describe its beauty. This place is recognized as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO.

You should close your eyes and enjoy the peace of this small village. It is as wonderful as images described in Grimm fairy tales about a beautiful and peaceful little village where there are gentle people, the roofs full of white snow, white chimneys, the green forest also covered in the pure white snow. Somewhere is interspersed with warm yellow lights, red ornaments of Christmas, traditional waffles’ smell from the bakery in the village ... All are blended creating a perfect picture.

Visiting Hallstatt, you will hear the stories about the salt mines and history of this region. Hallstatt is located in the Salzkammergut which in German means the area of salt. Coming to Hallstatt, you must visit a salt mine to hear about the history of this place. There are many salt mines exploited from several hundreds to a thousand meters deep inside the mountain caves. Unlike the traditional way of exploiting salt in the sea, salt is mined here by the explosion. Salt mined in this mountain is different from sea salt; it is a little saltier than sea salt.

Warm winter

Hallstatt and the surrounding area are also known as the ideal place for those who are interested in cycling. This place gives you the feeling of tranquility and the fresh images of green trees will appear in your eyes when you ride along the streets.

With small population size, only nearly 1 million, the people really appreciate every tourist visiting here. This is probably the friendliest place that I have ever visited in Europe. People here do not consider tourism as a business because they want to welcome those who love nature and introduce their culture to visitors. As the weather in winter is not favorable, I went to a guest house named Moserwirt at 9 pm. On arriving, a receptionist gave me the room key without asking us to fill in any information like elsewhere, such as name and credit card. Only a smile and a key were available. That was an incredibly great welcome.

Hallstatt does not have luxurious hotels or restaurants. Its cuisine is unique and very close to daily family food. Bacon, soup and sausage are delicious, all of which are homemade.
