Part1: 10 greatest ancient artificial works on the planet

Let’s admire the largest monumental works of ancient times which survived until today and scattered around the world.
Pyramids of Giza (Egypt): The Pyramids of Ancient Egypt were built as tombs for Kings (and Queens), and it was the exclusive privilege to have a Pyramid tomb. However, this tradition only applied in the Old and Middle Kingdoms. Today there are more than 93 Pyramids in Egypt; the most famous ones are those at Giza. Located in the southwest of Cairo, Egypt, Pyramids of Giza is a famous ancient work in the world, and is the only remaining wonder of the 7 wonders of the ancient world 2000 years ago. The Pyramids of Giza was built by the three kings of the fourth dynasty: Khufu (also known as Cheops), Khafre (Chephren) and Menkaure (Mycerinus). Khufu Pyramid is the largest one and also known as the Great Pyramid, it took 2 million stone blocks and was completed in 20 years. 139 m high, with more than 4,000 years old, this is the largest pyramid in Egypt.



The Great Wall (China): Built in the 5th century BC, with the task of protecting the northern border of China from Xiongnu (Mongolia), The Great Wall was built and rebuilt many times, the most famous part is the wall which was required to build by the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang from 220 and 206 BC, but currently there are only a few remaining relics. Most of which still exist today were built in the Ming Dynasty. The total length of the Great Wall is 8851.1 kilometers.



Machu Picchu (Peru): is also known as the "lost city of the Incas", discovered in 1911 by a Hawaii archeologist - Hiram Bingham. For centuries, this place hid in Urubamba valley. Machu Picchu is completely invisible from below. The people formerly lived thanks to natural streams flowing through the city. Before 1911, only local people know about this site. The Incas built up in 1450, and then it was abandoned within the century due to the Spanish conquest. The city is located 2430 m above the sea level, almost three times as high as the tallest tower in the world.

Petra (Jordan): known as "a city of red roses with age equal to half the length of time", this place is the biggest tourist attraction in Jordan and is also one of the gems of ancient culture. Petra was the capital of the Nabataean kingdom. Hidden by high cliffs and supplied with water by a perennial stream, Petra not only has the advantages of a fortress but also controls the main commercial routes which connect China, India, and Saudi to Egypt, Greece, and Rome.


Teotihuacan (Mexico): being the civilization which began in Mexico at the end of the 2nd century BC, Teotihuacan is famous for its tier architectural style of the pyramid. Pyramid of the Sun is the largest one and has a height of 75 m. Pyramid of the Moon is smaller and it was built a century later and was completed in 450 AD. Teotihuacan is characterized with carefully preserved walls. The city has a population of up to 125,000 people, is the 6th largest city in the world at that time.
